Current prime minister Mark Carney was invited to join Stephen Harper’s government. Joe Biden invited Harper to his hotel room during a 2018 conference in Sweden to talk politics. Those are just some of the revelations inside Harper’s new book Here For Canada compiled by National Post.

Harper writes in the final chapter of his book that he suggested Carney would be a top candidate for the minister of finance job but at the time, it was held by Jim Flaherty.

“Obviously, I did not offer him the post of minister of finance, as it was then not available,” he writes. “However, I indicated that, if he chose to join the government, he would be the leading candidate should the post come open,”

Harper also shared that at a conference in Sweden, he was invited by the former U.S. vice-president to share his perspective on a potential presidential run in 2020. Joe Biden would win against Donald Trump in 2020.

“He thought hearing from someone who was both non-American and conservative would be useful,” notes Harper.
